MASSAPOAG YACHT CLUB HONORED:
The Massapoag Yacht Club in Sharon was recognized by US Sailing as Yacht Club of the Year for 2009. The club was awarded this honor based on fleet growth, creative programming, regatta support, and member contribution at the regional, national, and international level. The all-volunteer club has been in operation for 63 years and has 70 member families. The club sails boats in four categories and one of them, the Flying Scot fleet, is one of the five largest in the country. Every summer, the club partners with the Sharon Recreation Department to offer sailing classes to adults and children, and also supports the Sharon High School sailing team.
