MYC Board of Directors COVID-19 Update 4/7/2020

Based on the latest Covid-19 information from the CDC and guidelines from Governor Charlie Baker, the MYC Board of Directors has decided to close the club indefinitely.  Scheduled activities will not be held until at least May 4. 2020, under the current stay-at-home advisory set by the Governor. This includes the work party, the safety seminar, racing and any private parties scheduled before that date. We will decide what to do about the Business Meeting scheduled for May 6 as that date gets closer.  We’ll continue to evaluate the CDC and Governor’s guidelines and we’ll keep you posted on any updates as soon as we can.

Meanwhile, if you do have a need to go to the club, please be aware that you do so at your own risk.   Please clean up after yourself as there is no trash service at this time. Also, please note that there is no fresh water or bathrooms available.

We have evaluated the state of the property and things are in pretty good shape after the winter. The gate has been repaired/widened so hopefully it will be easier for us pulling boats and trucks to get through the gate without hitting the post.

Please let us know if you have any questions and please stay safe!

Thank you for your cooperation,

MYC Board of Directors

The Gate is Repaired

You may recall that near the end of last year, a truck knocked down the post at the end of our gate. Well. lo and behold. we were able to get it not only fixed, but widened! It would be easier now for us to get in and out with a trailer attached to the car and for the trucks to get in and out without hitting the post. Thanks Rear Commodore Don Williams for finding a person who would come and make quick work of the repair.

MYC COVID-19 Update 5/20/2020

The Club is starting to reopen more as the Governor announces the re-opening phases for Massachusetts. We are still not holding club sponsored activities, but the docks are in, the moorings are in, the restrooms are open and the place is almost all cleaned up. We still need people to volunteer to do some painting and other tasks to spruce up the buildings,  The club is available for limited personal use and we are working on getting racing started with modified rules.

Here's the Commodore's latest message - https://www.sailmyc.org/About/Commodores-Corner

MYC to Begin Racing - Rules Modified for COVID-19

As you may know, the MYC Board has been working on adjustments to our racing program to comply with the Governor's Reopening Massachusetts plan. We are now ready to start racing this Sunday, May 31st at 1:30pm. Gary Werden has graciously volunteered to serve as PRO during this transition period and the Sailing Instructions will be modified based on the attached addendum.

IF YOU WERE SCHEDULED FOR DUTY, THERE IS NO DUTY FOR YOU AT THIS TIME.

Some highlights:

- All races will be pursuit races.

- Safety boat coverage will be limited. Racers who are uncomfortable with the conditions and/or the rescue assistance capacity SHOULD NOT RACE. Remember RRS Rule 4.

- The PRO, in consultation with the RC Chair or a Board Member, will determine whether conditions are suitable for racing based on the available rescue capacity.

- The RRS definition of Keep Clear is amended to: A boat keeps clear of a right-of-way boat when she maintains six feet between boats.

- All racers must wear PFDs on the water at all times and carry a whistle.

Please continue to wear a mask (or a neck gaiter, buff, or other suitable device to cover your mouth and nose) in areas on shore and on the docks.

We hope to see you on the water.
