Day Sailer Fleet 79

Day Sailers racing downwind and upwind

The Day Sailer is one of the oldest continuous classes in the Massapoag Yacht Club.  In 1971 Fleet 79 was given its charter in the Day Sailer Association, so in 2011 we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of our fleet.

The Day Sailer, designed in 1957 by Uffa Fox and George O’Day, combines the ease of sailing with the challenges of racing. The strong, family oriented class continues to provide the novice and old salts with shared summer fun.  In 2006 Fleet 79 hosted the North America Championship and the Junior Championship.  The Massapoag Yacht Club owns two Day Sailers for members to sail and these boat are used in our adult sailing classes.

Please feel free to contact fleet captain and regional vice-president, Bob Gaffney, to take a sail in the Day Sailer or to get answers to questions on how to rig the club Day Sailer sailboats.  We would love to have you join the fun.  You can contact Bob at dsfleetcaptain@sailmyc.org
