Welcome to Massapoag Yacht Club

Massapoag Yacht Club was founded on the shores of Lake Massapoag in 1946. MYC is an all-volunteer organization that has become a landmark for yacht racing in Massachusetts, as well as the Northeastern region of the US. Whether you are brand new to sailing or have extensive experience, MYC offers organized competition for all ages. We have hosted national sailing competitions as well as local and regional regattas. We hold races from May to October for all sailboat classes including juniors. For details see our Events Calendar.

2020 MYC Junior Regatta was a Great Success

Sunday, August 16, 2020

We had 11 boats and 14 juniors registered for the MYC 2020 Junior Regatta on Sunday 8/16/2020. PRO Greg Kampf did a great job of getting in 3 races in the windy, gusty, and often changing difrections conditions!  Jay McNeff assisted on RC and Evan Locke and Joe Honor were in the rescue boat.  One boat was taking on water, so the skipper came back in and opted not to try another boat, and he stayed back and watched. There were a combination  of Sunfish, 420's and Lasers out racing tofay. We had a few capsizes, but the kids got themselves back up and going and no rescues were needed. For the second year in a row, Melinda Goethert won the regatta, this time with 3 bullets. After racing, Don Williams and Diane Kampfcooked on the grill to feed the hungry sailors and Race Committee.  Congratulations to all the sailors.  You can find the full restuols here.  You can see the photos hree.

July 2, 2020, COVID-19 Update

Thursday, July 2, 2020

When the going gets tough, the tough go sailing!

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen many of you either enjoying a swim, kayaking, paddle boarding or, out on the water sailing. You are making the best out of our current situation. It’s very inspirational! Going forward things will continue to improve as long as we follow the current guidelines from the Governor and CDC.

Massachusetts is still in phase 2 of reopening, meaning we have to continue social distancing, wear facemasks on club grounds as well as on the docks and frequent hand washing if you touch surfaces at the club  Racing can continue with our enhanced rules and I encourage you to join in. The Juniors are racing on Sunday and it’s great to watch! And we are able to hold our sailing classes using the Sunfish our Commodore fixed up for the club. It’s so good to see that we can enjoy the club despite COVID-19 restrictions!

Last night the board discussed allowing groups of no more than 10 people to reserve the club for gatherings. We have decided to continue this policy of gatherings of no more than 10 at this time.  This was a tough decision. It’s important to limit exposure to members who might be there sailing or enjoying the beach. Keeping our club members safe is our first and highest priority. Unfortunately, this means we need to cancel our July club dinner. We are awaiting the rules for phase 3 to see if an August dinner will be allowed and we will discuss if it is feasible for us to hold the dinner.

Thank you all for your continued cooperation!

Stay safe and sail fast,

2020 Junior Racing is Underway as of 6/28/2020

Sunday, June 28, 2020

Our 2020 Junior Racing program began on Sunday 6/28/2020 with 6 boats and 12 sailors participating - some members and some guests. Thaks to Commodore Jeff Sprung for getting the Club Sunfish ready to support this program. Wolf Goethert gave a talk to the racers on what happens out on the race course. Each week there will be a 10-minute talk on some aspect of racing before the kids go out. Lots of folks helped the kids get the boats rigged and into the water. Chairpersons Heidi Goethert and Joe Honor went over a capsize drill. Greg Kampf and Harvery Davidson ran the races for the kids and Harvey provided coaching on the water. After racing the kids learned how to put the boats away properly. Oh - and there were two races and lots of fun out there! And it was fun to watch!
