APRIL
Spring is finally here – and in two weeks we will open MYC for the season. Though the club has been dormant for the winter, your Board of Directors has been busy. One topic that has been very much on my mind since the Annual Regatta in September is Safety.
In the days after the Regatta and its accompanying freak squall, we heard from many members who were either racing or helping run the event. While no one was hurt, and there was no significant damage to any boats, we were not as prepared as we would like to be, and we knew we could do better. Most of what we heard was about things that can – and will – be improved. Because of all the advice and suggestions we heard from you, we asked the Safety Committee to take it all on board and come back with a series of recommendations – which we continue to work thru. One topic – training – led us to conclude that we all need a refresh on Safety.
To that end, our annual Safety Training day – which in recent years has been required for new members and optional for existing members – will be mandatory for all members this year. Safety Training day is Saturday, June 17 – so please mark it on your calendars! For those who can’t make that work – we do have a make-up session scheduled – for Saturday, July 1.
Time to get those boats uncovered and ready to go!
