About Massapoag Yacht club

2018 Commodore's Corner - Mark Stoughton

JULY

Across the country, we are seeing yacht clubs downsize and even close. We are one of the few bright spots on the otherwise bleak sailing horizon.

We are so popular that we’ve had to increase the membership limit to 80 families.  Our Small Boat regatta has grown 10-fold since I first sailed it in 2011. We are now a nearly mandatory stop on the Sunfish, Laser and Aero schedules. We are going to be hosting the Flying Scot District Championships later this year. We are getting record turnouts for the club dinners and the moonlight sails. Light up the Lake is becoming an annual tradition that the town looks forward to.

We couldn’t do any of this without hard work from all of you. It’s the members that make the place tick and make it such a welcoming spot for sailors. From everyone pitching in to get the club opened, to the people who daily go the extra mile in making sure, among many other things, that the grounds are clean, the facilities are working, and the lights stay on.

Thank you all and see you on the water!
